On Jan 7, 2026, popular reality TV star Tacha took to Twitter to condemn the ongoing arrest of children living and working on Lagos streets, stating the raids are a misplaced solution to government failure. Tacha’s comments came in response to a tweet by @tokunbo_wahab reporting that officials continued raiding street beggars and children along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway and other parts of Lagos. The enforcement campaign, according to the post, is aimed at restoring order, ensuring public safety, and keeping roads and public spaces clear. The report included a video showing officials apprehending young boys.
In her tweet, Tacha questioned why children are on the streets in the first place. “These children are on the streets because the government failed them,” she wrote. She highlighted the dangers faced by street children, noting that many get hit by cars, injured, or fail to make it home.
Tacha urged the Lagos State Government to focus on long-term solutions, such as establishing vocational centres with boarding facilities where children can learn skills like shoemaking, designing, photography, and videography. “You don’t solve poverty with force.
“You don’t punish people for surviving,” she wrote, adding that officials who mismanaged public funds, leaving children with no choice but the streets, deserve scrutiny more than the children themselves. https://naijafeministsmedia.org.ng/tacha-criticises-lagos-street-beggar-arrests-calls-for-government-action/
